Hi I'm Paisley! Welcome to the Playroom!

Hi I'm Paisley! Welcome to the Playroom!

I'm an artist, filmmaker, new(ish) parent, and overall creative human trying to live an artful life!

Paisley's Playroom is a space to share musings on children's media, ethical technology, queer parenting, creativity, & colourful, artful living.

It is also my way of holding myself accountable to my dream: making media for kids and families!

I've always felt that kid's media is magic, and when created with intention, can inspire imagination and impact. Making children's entertainment is a life-long calling that I've been working towards since I was a kid. I I have even been recognized for my work in children's programming by the Fred Rogers Institute!

Me and 'yaya' - the late, fabulous Joanne Rogers

Over the course of my career, I've had many meandering paths and side-quests, including 10+ years in immersive virtual reality. After having my kid, I quickly realized I needed to listen to my calling, and prioritize it above all else.

I started this blog to create a space where I could document and share my journey toward living my dream of creating children's media in a more thoughtful way than social media allows. I'm deeply inspired by legacy children's programming like Mister Roger's Neighbourhood and Mister Dress-up. My dream is to one day make a show that connects with kids in a similarly thoughtful way, that respects children as human beings.

Paisley's Playroom is peek into my creative process and a place to share the things that inspire me, and a space to be honest about the challenges along the way.

I'm going to be honest, making this career change is scary. I don't have a roadmap where I'm going. I'm just "following my nose... wherever it goes!" to quote a famous 90's cereal ad. My nose has led me back here, to writing and sharing. I'm trusting the process, I'm taking the leap, and I'm glad to have you all along for the ride!

"A colourful part of this complete breakfast!"

Thanks for coming along with me as as I do the work and make the dream happen, all with a toddler in tow!

XO Paisley
