Marimbas, Wayfinding Mothers, MIT Worlding, and Mudlarking
🌸 Petal peeping with my people! 🌸

(Brought to you by the Letter 'M')

The big news here in Vancouver is the sun is out! In MAY!

This is both off-putting and lovely. Suddenly the city has come alive. and so have we! Sunshine-filled adventures we have had lately:

heaven is a digger on the beach
  • Flower peeping at Van Duseun Gardens! Playing at the beach - twice! Running wild at the Pirate ship playground!
  • Big news: Mimi rode his "bike" for the first time this week, with his big ol' green helmet (and don't you DARE accidentally call it a hat!)
And he's off!
  • We celebrated 'Baba's Day' on Sunday (our version of Mother's day for Caitlin!) After waffles, we hit a yard sale, and went out to the Burnaby Blooms festival at Deer Lake!
  • The highlight of the festival was seeing Robin Layne and the Rhythm Makers perform! They were incredible, and Mimi was OBSESSED! After the show, he asked to 'go up there' and check out the instruments. Since the show he has been dutifully banging away on the xylophone and asking that we get him a marimba (... anyone got one to spare?!)

Robin Layne and the Rhythm Makers! We are now their #1 fan

  • We also loved all of the playful children's installations at the festival! Shoutout to "Squoggleworld" by artist Rachel Lytzki, where kids could interact with a super cool recycled cardboard playground!
Welcome to Squoggleworld!
Squoggleworld also included a lot of fun ball runs like this one!
  • After the festival, we found out the power was down in our neighbourhood, so we went to Slice of Life Gallery, took some photos in their collection of vintage photo booths, and had cheeky Baba's day beer at Bomber Brewery.
Treasuring these Baba's Day photos!

Amidst all of this fun-filled sunshine, I took some...

Tiny Career Steps!

A part of this blog is sharing my journey to redirect my career towards making kid's entertainment. Here are a few things I'm proud of this week:

  • I've been working steadily on my pitch deck for a children's show concept 🍄 My goal is to have my pitch done to present at the Media that Matters Conference next week! If you want to hear my pitch, message me! I'd love to share it with you.
  • We had our Filmable Fellowship Showcase last night! Since September, I've been supporting our Production and Feature film fellows through the Filmable x Collective Bunch Fellowship. Our fellows took part in regular workshops, script sessions, and mentorship opportunities. Filmable's motto is "Consistency makes community" and it's through the consistency of these gatherings that we truly have made a beautiful community of artists. Folks from Vancouver's film industry joined us last night to listen to our fellows pitch their feature films! It was wildly inspiring and I felt like a VERY proud mom!

  • I volunteered for the Carousel Theatre last Satuday, running their concession stand during a production of the Paperbag Princess (Get your tickets! The show runs through May 10th!! ) As I've shared before, live theatre productions feel like an antidote to AI art-making, and I feel called to support children's entertainers doing this work! THAT SAID - Making sure everyone had their popcorn and Paperbag Princess mini-book was NO JOKE! The machine stopped working at one point, and let me tell you, you do not want to disapoint a room full of mom's who have promised their kid popcorn at the theatre!! Mad respect to popcorn makers everywhere. I was sweating!
In the corner of the theatre they set up a cozy little book nook, complete with - you guessed it - The Paper Bag Princess!

And now for a few bigger, BOLDER steps!

I've been invited to participate in "🌿 The Wayfinding Mother: A Private Listening Room" hosted by the incredible Johanna Setta!

"In celebration of Mother’s Day, we’re inviting you to eavesdrop on a private audio experience with four mothers (entrepreneurs, creatives, adventurers, wayfinders) that are charting our own paths in motherhood, life, and business." Join us for a really cool conversation! I can't wait to chat with these incredible people about their creative business and lives! Join us :)

I met Johanna in Palm Springs last year at Alt Summit, and we instantly connected over our shared interest in ethical technology, needle felting, & flexible waldorf vibes (among other things!!) She helps people run their businesses OFF of social media! She's incredible.

And finally,

I'm really looking forward to joining the 2026 MIT Worlding incubator as a story facilitator!

WORLDING brings place-based stories into light, weaving together immersive technology and community-centered design to create a new climate futures model.

Beautiful collaboration between worlding and Beam paints <3

Worlding brings together creative technologists, activists, scientists, artists, researchers, filmmakers together to further develop incredible climate and land driven works.

Beautiful Worlding community last year at MIT <3

I find it so grounding to be in community with creators who are questioning similar things as me, and who are making work that address issues in our world head on.

As the story workshop facilitator, I lead the Worlding teams through a playful design-thinking explorations of touch and emotion. Very much based in worldbuilding techniques, my workshop helps them better anticipate their audience and deepen their story.

Mudlarkin' on the mind:

Anyone else obsessed with Mudlarking content? Sometimes I just imagine myself to be one of the "Northern Mudlarks" scouring the Scottish countryside for a ancient coin or carved dice...

With that, I leave you with our Mudlarking in the sandbox treasures:

Plastic beads. A bottle cap. and a DAISY!

Maybe the treasure is in the eye of the beholder!

Until next time!
